I have an M.Ed. and a PhD in Counselling Psychology.

I have a Master’s degree and Ph.D. in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta, one of the few accredited programs in Canada.

A Psychologist in Alberta can have a Master’s degree, Psy.D., or Ph.D. Typically, each level of a degree adds increasing specialization and research focus.

It is important you ask your therapist about their education because some insurance programs require certain levels and types of education to provide funding for your treatment. Please check with your insurance provider for specific requirements.

A Registered Psychologist with a Ph.D. is universally accepted across benefit programs.

I am a Registered Psychologist in Alberta.

There are many unregulated titles in the area of mental health and well-being, such as “counsellor,” “coach,” “consultant,” and “therapist.” Unregulated means anyone who provides mental health services can use these titles regardless of training. However, only individuals registered with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) may use the title “Psychologist.”

When someone uses the title Psychologist, you know their credentials are approved, and their practice is regulated. Therefore, you can be assured you are seeing a highly trained professional licensed to provide services to the community in areas where they have gained extensive training, supervision, and experience.

I am a Nationally Registered Health Service Psychologist.

Many Psychologists indicate health psychology in their areas of practice. However, not many can be registered as Health Services Professionals by The Canadian Register of Health Service Psychologists (CRHSP). To be a CRHSP provider, a Psychologist must meet the highest levels of education, training, and experience in psychological health care, in addition to the requirements of the College of Alberta Psychologists.

CRHSP Psychologists provide health services anchored in a distinct combination of scientific and professional training to help, maintain, promote and restore behavioural, cognitive, emotional, relational, and physical health of individuals, couples, families, groups, and organizations.

I work with adults.

I am a highly trained psychologist with a highly developed skillset in helping people overcome difficulties, cope with stress, perform better at work and lead happier lives. My education, training, and experience provide a wealth of experiences working with adults in various settings with various concerns.

I work with children and teens

I use a unique approach to understanding and helping children and teens. When I work with your child or teenager, my session looks and feels different from when I work with an adult, even when the treatment, concerns and goals are the same.

Children/Teens are NOT just tiny adults. For example, when dealing with depression, a child may act out or become defiant. A teenager may resort to drug use, perform poorly in school or engage in self-destructive behaviours. Still, an adult may experience confusion, eat less than usual, or report all sorts of aches without a clear physical cause. The same disorder can show itself differently in people of different ages. I have extensive training and experience helping children/teens, and families figure out what is happening and how to move forward with health.

I have worked hard to develop a breadth and depth of flexibility and vast skills to draw from many different modes of therapy to help your child or your teenager successfully. I may use Behaviour Therapy, Play Therapy, Ecosystematic Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Emotion Focused Therapy, Logotherapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Filial Therapy, Psychoeducation, Bibliotherapy, Exposure Response Prevention, Systematic Desensitization, or unique, eclectic use of portions of any of the above. What the therapy looks like will be based on flexible use of science and clinical skills to uniquely address your child, where he/she/they have been, where he/she/they are and where he/she/they want to be.

I am able to refer to a Psychiatrist.

I have an Alberta Health PracID — Alberta Health Practitioner identification number

A PracID is required to refer clients to a Psychiatrist or any other medical practitioner.

Accessing mental health services can be extremely difficult, and obtaining a referral to a psychiatrist may feel impossible. At times, people are unsure if they should see a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist.

I am familiar with and have years of experience working collaboratively with psychiatrists. I have the education, skill, and experience to help ensure your health is addressed in the most productive way possible. What you need and what you would benefit from is the most important goal of my work. If a referral would be helpful, I will not hesitate.

I can help.

If you’re considering therapy, you’re probably facing a situation, experience of emotion that feels difficult, overwhelming, or maybe even insurmountable.

Choosing to invest your time and money in therapy is choosing to prioritize yourself and your wellbeing. Just like choosing to save funds for your retirement is essential to your future, therapy is an investment in your wellbeing through that future.

The science of treatment can provide RELIEF. Self-improvement can increase confidence, boosts your self-esteem, and can free up time searching Dr. Google for solutions to your struggles.

Choosing to invest in therapy is choosing to invest in yourself, your future, and your wellbeing. And you are worth it.
